Marios Fokaefs

Assistant Professor, York University

Marios Fokaefs is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Lassonde School of Engineering, where he directs the EASE (Economics and Administration of Software Engineering) lab. His expertise revolves around Software Engineering and more specifically on software evolution and DevOps. His research focuses on Software Engineering Economics, Software Performance Engineering, Cloud Computing and Self-Adaptive Systems among others. Professor Fokaefs holds a BSc in Computer Science from University of Macedonia, Greece, and a MSc and PhD on Software Engineering from the University of Alberta. Before joining York University, he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer and Software Engineering at Polytechnique Montreal. He has long-standing partnerships with various companies, most notably IBM Canada, while his work is also funded by NSERC, Mitacs and the Wellcome Trust.

He has spent the past three years serving as a software technical lead, driving the integration of IBM IaaS with IBM's business support systems. His expertise includes designing and implementing software tools and platforms that enable service teams to onboard new products and offerings quickly and reliably at scale. In addition to his leadership role, Michael specializes in building large-scale data pipelines to process billing information for customers, ensuring data integrity and efficiency. His technical proficiency encompasses microservice architecture, systems design for large-scale data solutions, Kubernetes, and Golang. Michael is committed to enhancing data pipeline resiliency, reliability, and disaster recovery strategies, crucial for managing critical customer data.

Wejdene Haouari is a Software Developer on IBM's Cognos Analytics team, where she works on agentic AI integration within the platform. With a master's degree from York University, her research centered on Software Performance, Bug Detection, Self-Adaptive Systems, and blockchain technology. Her work on Cognos Analytics focuses on developing intelligent agent capabilities that enable automated analytics workflows and data-driven decision-making for enterprise users.
